As the Backend Engineer you will build the APIs, integrations, and data pipelines that power this dynamic start up's automation platform. Build reliable, well-structured backend systems that handle real-world complexity and compliance required in law firm transactions.
About the Role:
Build and maintain RESTful APIs powering the firm's automation workflows — settlements, document processing, compliance checks
Develop integrations with the leading property registries, banking systems, and legal practice management platforms
Design and optimise PostgreSQL database schemas, queries, and data access patterns
Implement data processing pipelines for document parsing, validation, and automation
Write comprehensive tests (unit, integration, E2E) and maintain high code quality standards
Work with the security team to ensure all endpoints meet SOC 2 and privacy compliance requirements
Monitor and improve API performance, reliability, and error handling
Contribute to technical documentation and API specifications
About You:.
3+ years of backend engineering experience with Node.js and TypeScript
Strong PostgreSQL database design, query optimisation, and data modelling skills
Experience building RESTful APIs at scale with comprehensive error handling and documentation
Understanding of data pipeline patterns, event-driven architectures, and async processing
Familiarity with AWS services and cloud-native development patterns
Experience with testing frameworks (Jest, Vitest) and CI/CD pipelines
Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and commitment to code quality
Based in or willing to relocate to Sydney or Melbourne, Australia
